I plead guilty of living in the US - very true story...

A very nice and comic bit that I came across this morning narrated by a person who lives in the US....

The truth has been capped by the comic words....PLEASE READ THRU ....

Last time I was in India, I went to visit a long lost friend. When I arrived at his place, on agreed upon time - like an idiot, he was not home. His dad assured me that he would return soon and insisted that I waited.

My friend’s father, Mr. T, was an interesting guy, interesting being an euphemism for creepy. There was no end to his questions. He seemed to have an ax to grind against Indians living in the US too. He didn’t sound like an average curious George, he sounded more like a lawyer arguing for my death sentence.

Mr. T: Where do you live?
I stated my name and address for the record.

Several questions followed that reiterated the accusations against me.

Mr. T: How long have you been living in the US?
Mr. T: Do you own a house? How much did it cost? Oh my god, for that price you can buy two houses in India.
Mr. T: Which company do you work for? Do you they have a branch in India? Oh, they will, soon.
Mr. T: How frequently do you visit India?

After it was established, beyond reasonable doubt, that I had been happy living in the US, he continued scornfully.

Mr. T: What platform do you work on?

These days, everybody in India, including retired Math teachers, know everything about software. Not to worry, I have prepared answers for these questions.

Me: I don’t have a specific platform. My strength is in adapting to various platforms.

That answer worked well in job interviews. But he looked at me like I was retarded. He proceeded, speaking very slowly.

Mr. T: What language do you use?

My answer would’ve started with “Language is just a tool,” but I knew Mr. T would interpret it as “I don’t know any software languages. I am a complete moron.” So went with an answer he could appreciate.

Me: I use C

Mr. T smirked like a lawyer would when the opponent’s witness makes a blunder.

Mr. T: You use C? In this advanced age, even people in India are using modern languages like Java, Oracle and Cisco. You are living in America and still using C?

I didn’t know which part to correct first. But I knew any attempt to enlighten him would be futile.

Me: Yeah, I never learnt Cisco.

At this point, Mr. T decided to stop beating around the bush and determine my worth.

Mr. T: How much do you make?

A question that is not considered too personal in India. If one evades the question, it would be assumed that one has pathetically low income. I gave him some vague number.

Mr. T: Do you get housing allowance? Vehicle allowance?

After I confessed I didn’t even know that they were, his Math-teacher-brain worked like a super computer. He took my salary, compensated for inflation, dollar value fluctuation, housing market downturn and draught in Ethiopia. He arrived at an arbitrary adjusted net salary.

Mr. T: My cousin’s brother-in-law’s son, who works in Bangalore, makes gazillion rupees. Considering his house and car loan allowances, he is making almost as much as you make. So what is the point in your living in the US?

He rested his case.

My friend arrived and bailed me out before I could make an opening statement. I don’t know how he interpreted my lunging to hug him and saying, “Man, you have no idea how glad I am to see you.”

Brain Teasers

Don't think that I was sitting all the while and preparing these Brain Teasers,

ha ha ha I found this in by mail box..... but just thought to give some work for the brain rather than only to see, read and hear in my blog.

I thought it would be nice for people to interact. So all of you all can guess the answers and reply back...

  1. What is the easiest way to throw a ball, have it stop, and completely reverse direction after traveling a short distance?
  2. What is at the beginning of eternity, the end of time, the beginning of every end, and the end of every place?
  3. When things go wrong, what can you always count on?
  4. What is always behind you but you can never touch it?
  5. I am never the first to speak but I am always the last to be heard. Who am I?
  6. We were born of the same mother, on the same day, at the same hour and in the same year. Yet we are not twins. How do you explain this?
  7. Two fathers and two sons were seated round a table. There were four apples on the table. Each of them took one apple and ate it entirely yet there was still one apple left on the table. How was this possible?
  8. Before Mount Everest was discovered which was the highest mountain in the world?
  9. Here everything is not always in order. For example, Friday comes before Thursday, the cart comes before the horse, the driver comes before the employer. Where are we?
  10. When I am alive I stay put where I am. It is only when I am dead that I move about here and there. Who am I?
  11. How can you be behind a person when that person is also behind you?

Even I was thinking for the answers as you all are doing, but I had the answers with me to look into am I not being very brainy.....he he he

Its only after a receive a few guesses that I am going to leak out the answers....so start guessing.....

Thanks for looking into the post..... :)

Bird Feeders??? Varieties???

Even I didn't know what a Bird feeder was and if birds would come to them and eat the seeds in that and fly away... its only after I saw it in my friends place did I believe that there is something like this.....

Bird feeders contain flower seeds like the sunflower seeds which are usually hung in the balcony roofs for all the birds to feed on them......

Wondering!!! as to what is there in this photo, that I have put it here.... This is the common sight seen in the road sides, where the birds search thier food, mostly for some small insects or dead animals.

Amazed to see all the different types at most of the houses... I am sure you all also would be surprised to see this....Thanks for taking time in looking into....

Ennada beer bottle thongudhenu ninaikkadhinga.........idhu fulla "Nectar" appadina .....Its the fruit juice for the birds...Instead of birds searching for the flowers and sucking the nectar in them people have made life easier for the birds toooo....

This type of a bird feeder....filled with the yellow liquid which is nothing but the nectar.. My friend said that it was especially for the "Humming Birds"... she also said that there is a small plastic engraving of a flower at the base where the bird sits and places its beak on that illusionary flower and sucks the nectar....

We actually stood there for a very long time to capture a picture of the humming bird sucking the nectar but did'nt find any bird.....our bad luck....but the next time I am there will try to capture the picture and will surely share with everyone..

There is a bird actually in this. I tried my level best to focus but it was busy, turning its back towards me and munching the food....may be it was very hungry and didn't even tbother to turn and give a pose for the photograph.... :(

Idhu eppadi irukku !!! This house had the feeder filled with seeds especially for the Red Cardinal... It took me a long time, in fact I sat down there for a while to capture this beautiful pose of this colourful bird...

Can you see the small bird on the wire, this was also a very colourful bird...lime green colour..but it was too small that the maximum zoom level in the camera also could not capture a close picture of it. I tried very hard to capture atleast one close snap...but was very unlucky :(

This is another type of a bird feeder, very artistically carved on it.....but there weren't any birds in that... :(

The bird in this photo has taken a seed in its beak and is busy eating it. Also looking around if there are any competitors coming to fight for the food....

This was also there in the same house.. they had tied this to the balcony but couldnt get a closer shot of this as we were standing below and couldn't see what exactly was there inside that basket shaped...may be food for the birds.... Lucky birds to have plates like this :)

What a discovery...... along with the people's life, its made life easier for the birds tooo here...... :)

Kuruvi - Its not my Review - "but unga sirippukku naan guarantee"

I actually did'nt want to give any movie reviews. But I came across this blogger who has wonderfully written the review of this movie, so just thought to share the comedy part with all of you. But unfortunately it is in Tamil....I would suggest non-Tamil readers to get it translated and I am sure you will enjoy it.

Hilarious :-) Kuruvi Movie Review
(click on this...and have a nice laugh all throughout, as I had... :-)

As a Vijay fan I was very very disappointed to see this movie. I really doubt if Vijay ever heard the story even before he signed the call sheet. I have been searching for the story, unfortunately even after watching the whole movie I have been thinking as to what exactly did the director wanted to say the audiences....

With Dhill, Dhool and Gilli, director Dharani showed us that he had mastered the art of creating fast-paced, well-balanced masala films that had no dull moments. All of them were variations of the David vs. Goliath story of a common man going up against someone way more powerful and spiced up the basic story with action, comedy, romance and sentiments.

The previous three movies of Dharani, were successful to an extent. But this movie according to my suggestions is one among the worst movies of Vijay after Kannukkul Nilavu, etc...My kind request would be please dont waste your time and money in watching this movie in a theatre, its not even worth the popcorn money....

Review is Hilarious only, but the Comments given below will surely make you roll over the ground and laugh loud :-)

Sad News : The much awaited Kamal Hassan's next movie release has run into legal trouble with a Vaishnavite forum approaching the Madras HC objecting to the film’s title and some scenes it says offend religious sentiments. I dont know if this the common problem with only Kamal Hassan's movies like Virumaandi also had some problems in its release.

The court has issued notices to the censor board, producer Oscar Films and director K S Ravikumar. There are the scenes depicting a violent clash between Saivite and Vaishnavite sects of Hinduism; Kamal stepping on ‘pranava mantram’ and the Bhagvad Gita; and the scene in which Kamal is tied to the idol of Lord Ranganathar and pushed into the sea, offended the faith and sentiments of Vaishnavites.

The petitioner wanted a restrain order to producer and director from releasing the film as it ‘‘would lead to untold hardship and irreparable loss’’.
Pavam Kamal Sir evlodhaan kashtapaduvaro oru padam eduthu mudikka...... naanum dhan evlo asaiya irundhen sikirama padam vandha theatre poi parkalamnu....idhu release aga rombo late aagum pola.....everyone keep waiting like me... :-(

"Amma" - May 11th is your day

"Mother" - God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.

Special day which is devoted solely to mothers

There is only one pretty child in the world, and every mother has it.

Hey!! Mother's Day is round the corner, this Sunday. The concept of celebrating Mothers Day, is usually on the second Sunday of May i.e., falls on the 11th of this year. The whole concept of this celebration is a wish that someone should strive to provide mothers their due recognition.

It is time to think about all the pains their mother took while they were sick, the hardships she went through in bringing them up and all the sacrifices she made so that they lead a better life.

Mothers Day is the time to say a big thank you to mother for all this and for being a constant guiding force in our lives. Mothers are the sweetest gift from Gods to us.

There is no way we can ever really thank our mother for all she does for us nevertheless we must make it a habit to keep reminding ourselves of the various sacrifices she made while raising us.

Among the many film songs collection , here are 2 of my favorite songs that I could recollect at present apt for Mother's Day ....

A lovely melodious song, sung by Dr.K.J.Yesudas about "Amma".... a very intense meaning in the lyrics of this song... the mother struggles so much for her son.

This is what is called as real feeling of any child separated by their mother... very touchy, very caring Maa and also a caring child who misses his Maa a lot... beautiful song from Taare Zameen Par.

I miss my Amma a lot after I am married and staying away from my home (its not that I dont miss my father, I miss him too...). I was being pampered at home, get up late and Amma used to do everything for me.

This was the all time advice may be till I got married, kalyanathukku apron ellame nee dhaan pannanum, ippo irundhe ellathayum kathukonu from samayal to the daily chores...This is a standard dialogue from all the mothers .(you have to do all the cooking and household chores after ur marriage so start doing it from now on....)

Amma naan padikkumbodhu, mostly during my exams.... nee yaarayum nambi irukkakodadhu, unnoda padippu dhan unakku soru podum.... nee nalla padichina dhan nalaikku nalla velai kidaikkumnu (you have to be independant and study well and stand in your own legs).....She used to tell me every now and then....

After my studies, after marriage, advice ellam vera....aathukaarar veetla ellarkittayum adjust panni poganum, aathukaarar enna sonnalum ketu kanum, porumaiya irukanum, vittukuduthu poganum, nee ellarkittayum nalla kala kalanu pesanumnu......neraya neraya.....

Before we came here to the US advice marubadiyum.....nee dhairiyama irukanum, anga poi rendu perum sandai ellam poda koodadhu, sandoshama irukkanum, vittukuduthu poganum, mapillaikku nalla samaichu tharanumnu......nonstop advice.....

Ippovum webcamla Amma ore advice mazhai dhan....nalla sandoshama irukkengla, nee time waste pannadha, edhavadhu orupudiya pannu, nalla sapadu samaichu kodu, avara nalla parthukonu...

Amma is one very dearest person who knows every movement that I make whether it be at home or here when she sees me in the webcam.....she can easily make out by my face....and has always adviced all these for the betterment of my life....

The best advice my mother ever gave to me was: 'Strivers achieve what dreamers believe. If you put your mind to it, you can do it. And, listen to me, I've been through it already. Learn to be Independent and bold.'

ADVANCE HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO MY MOM AND ALL THE DEAR MOTHER'S

Readers are welcome to contribute and share their favourite advice from their mom and also their wishes. Thanks for spending out your time and looking out.

""Photography"" I just love it.... whether it be nature, birds,flowers...

I need to grow little more to reach the sky.......

Finally I got some free time today, to blog about our short trip to the Duke Gardens a week ago, that is there in Durham, nearly 20min. drive from home.

As some of the highly skilled photographers do, they go to the local florist and buy some cut flowers to photograph. We are not of that category, but are little interested in taking photographs of the beautiful nature, flowers, birds and the wildlife.

I am very happy and proud to share those very beautiful snaps with everyone. I don’t mind if I don't get a wow from these snaps, I am sure we will try to reach higher in our photographic skills as there are still many things to explore in our camera Canon S3 IS.

After a very long cold and snowy winter, spring finally came and the wildflowers are really bursting out all over the place and we have been getting a few decent shots, everyday brings forth more color and varieties so we should have a few more images to post now and then.

A rare kind of flowers that we came across there, I forgot to take down their names. But very beautiful to look.

Different varieties of colours of Tulips that we got to see there. We were very excited to take photographs of those beauties.....My favorite two pleasant colours in the collection of all Tulips there.....

An unbloomed beauty which was waiting and posing for a photograph of ours....

We found a brave Squirrel and Rabbit near by that were continuously hopping around searching for something to munch, and we took a snap of it with a very adorable pose of both of them .....I love the way both pose to the snap:-)

A few pictures of the birds that we were able to capture after waiting and flying behind them to eagerly capture it in our camera.....and bringing it home with us. I had also taken a few near our home.

The two near dear friends who very often come near to our backyard and discuss something.. I keep guessing what they talk to.. let me know if you can guess what it is....

Sparrow, thats becoming an extinct species in India, and we rarely get to see. Those were the days were the sparrows used to build nests at home in the shelves and roofs at villages. So I was very happy to take close shots of them in the camera.....

This is the Red Cardinal bird, which hardly stays for a few seconds in front of the lens... after a very hard try and zoom we could capture only so much...a very notorious bird ....

Beauty of the sunset...I just love taking snaps of the sunset whether it be a beach or mountains or lake or a plain ground... what the place be I just need the sky, sun and a camera and I start to take snaps..The first is at the Crabtree Lake, near our home and the second one is from our neighbor apartment where the sunset looks very beautiful...as usual...

With more time on my hands I should be able to get out and add more shots to my portfolio, thanks for taking the time to visit my blog and leaving comments I know it’s hard with the busy schedules everyone has I really appreciate the time you take to stop by.

Once again thanks for stopping by and taking a look , your thoughts are always appreciated and welcome.
